Buying swimming pool salt: what to look out for

More and more pool owners are switching to pool salt in combination with electrolysis instead of traditional chlorine products. The big advantage? Softer water, less odor, and more consistent disinfection.

But be careful: not all pool salt works the same way. The type of electrolysis determines which salt you need. In this blog, we explain what to look for when buying pool salt and what the difference is between Pool Salt and Soft-Sel Pluss.

Why use special pool salt?

Pool salt is used to create an active disinfectant through electrolysis. Depending on the system, this occurs:

  • directly in the pool water (hydrolysis), or
  • via a separate salt solution (membrane electrolysis)

Therefore, it is important to use the right type of salt that fits your system.

What should good pool salt meet?

Regardless of the system, pool salt must:

  • have a very high NaCl purity
  • free from additives such as anti-caking agents
  • be safe for pool lining and technology

The difference lies not in the quality, but in the application.

Poolsel Swimming Pool Salt – for hydrolysis

Poolsel is pool salt that is specifically intended for hydrolysis systems. In this type of installation, the salt is added directly to the pool water.

Features of Poolsel:

  • suitable for hydrolysis
  • is directly sprinkled in the pool
  • fast and even solution
  • high purity without additives

👉 Poolsel is ideal for swimming pools where the disinfection process takes place in the pool itself.

Important: Pool salt must not be used in systems with membrane electrolysis.

Soft-Sel Pluss – for membrane electrolysis

Soft-Sel Pluss is specially developed for membrane electrolysis systems. In this type of installation, the salt is not added to the pool water, but dissolved in a separate salt tank.

Features of Soft-Sel Pluss:

  • salt tablets, no crystals
  • loosen checked in a separate bin
  • ensure a stable salt solution
  • suitable for membrane electrolysis

👉 Soft-Sel Pluss is never used directly in the pool.

Important: Use Soft-Sel Pluss exclusively in installations that require this type of salt.

Which choice is right for your pool?

  • Do you have a hydrolysis system?
    👉 Choose Poolsel
  • Do you have a membrane electrolysis system?
    👉 Choose Soft-Sel Pluss

Are you unsure about your installation? Always consult the manual or contact for advice. Using the wrong salt can lead to:

  • poor disinfection
  • damage to the installation
  • unstable water values
  • Better swimming comfort with regular use
